Mike Colter, the star of now-canceled Netflix-Marvel show Luke Cage, is uncertain as to whether we will see him reprise the character in the future.
There is nothing that annoys us quite as much as our favorite TV shows being canceled. When a long-running show comes to its natural end after a number of seasons, that's not so bad. However, if that show is unexpectedly cut short, we are often left with an end of season cliffhanger that is often never resolved.
Fans of the Netflix-Marvel shows have been feeling that burn more than ever recently. Netflix has been swinging its axe and only two of the five shows are left standing. Iron Fist was the first to go, Luke Cage followed shortly after, and much to the surprise of almost everyone, Daredevil made it three. Jessica Jones and Punisher still remain, but it is highly likely they will meet the same fate soon enough.
Even though three of the five shows have been canceled, their futures are still up in the air. During an interview with IndieWire Mike Colter, who plays Luke Cage, admitted that he is unsure what will happen with his character down the line. "It's one of those things that didn't happen for any other reason than the powers that be deciding that it was something that they wanted to take back into another platform, and whether it comes back or not I don't know," Colter explained.
Colter's comments sync up with the conspiracy theory that Disney might have something to do with Marvel shows rapidly disappearing from Netflix. Disney Plus is set to launch later this year, and since Marvel is now a part of the Disney family, it may want those shows and characters for its own streaming platform. However, Netflix owns the rights to four of the five characters, all apart from Punisher, until 2020.
If there had been dwindling interest in the Netflix-Marvel shows then their cancelation would have made a lot more sense. However, you need look no further than the backlash to their removal to see that's not the case. Iron Fist we were okay with, Luke Cage kind of made sense, but Daredevil getting the chop was beyond the pale. Its third season received a lot of plaudits which is why its cancelation has left so many of us angry and confused.
